Chapter Fifteen
Alvin
Early the following morning, weâd been moved to a suite thanks to help from Kozmoâs best friend Julissa. They extended the reservation to Friday, giving us an extra couple of days to relax and avoid paparazzi. They also had groceries delivered through a service for us so we wouldnât have to leave to get anything. I was exhausted, but it hadnât been 24 hours yet. Alani refused to let me go to sleep because she was worried about what might happen due to the concussion. We stayed up, talking through the late hours.
After a few days past, she relaxed. Most of the lightheadedness and dizziness had subsided, so she wasnât as overprotective of me as she had been the first night.
âHey. How you feeling?â She tapped my shoulder when I started to doze off on the documentary we had been watching.
âI have a slight ringing in my ears and a bit of a headache, but Iâm alright.â
âAl, we should get you back to the hospital. Where are your brothers now?â
âAJ is probably at practice.â
âIâm going to shoot him.â
âThatâs exactly what he said. Parker and Julian went back to Houston of course, but before they left they told me if I got killed, Gran would haunt them for not stopping me from doing something stupid. AJ protested bringing me here in the first place, then called the two of them, who proceeded to yell at me. They threatened to tie me to my bed, amongst other things. All this was in high-pitched yells. Done to the person with a migraine the size of this damn state.â
âYou shouldâve stayed at the hospital, Al. Howâd you convince AJ to bring you?â
âSaid Iâd drive myself if he didnât, plus I have some leverage on him.â
She gave me a look.
âThatâs between brothers, canât share that one, but listen ⦠the doctors told me I needed to stay awake, drink plenty of fluids, and rest. Youâve been making sure Iâve been doing just that. Even kept me up for a whole day. I wanted to make sure you were okay and it turned out that you were the one doing all the checking.â
âI wonât be okay if you die, dumbass.â
Her anger seemed to be subsiding and I felt bad for worrying her, but I truly couldnât take my mind off. Weâd been talking about Mel and how all of that went to shit. It wasnât something I wanted to discuss because she wasnât important at all, but it was necessary for us to be able to move forward. When I told her Kaymee was ready to knock her ass out, that made the entire conversation a little more bearable. Eventually I got her to shift to her fellowship and how it went. That covered two days of babble and honestly, it reminded me of the times we spent in my dorm or her apartment just shooting the shit. I made a promise to myself to go get checked out in a few days when we left here.
